How do I check my external hard drive for viruses without the risk of infecting my new computer?

I had a pretty bad virus on my old computer. I have put my documents, pictures and music off of it by throwing it on my external hard drive. However, I am worried the virus have managed to infect the external hard drive. Is it possible that I can check the external hard drive for viruses without putting my new computer at risk?

If you have money, you can go to a place like Best Buy and they'll check for you. If you want to do it yourself, it is not really an easy way. Chances are, if it's a powerful virus, it will be in the files you moved. You can either use your old computer to run a virus scan, or get a professional do it for you. If your computer can not do that, and you can not get help, you will have some problems. The other I can think you might be able to easily configure another user account on your computer without administrative capacity all. Then, using a sandbox program and open the drive. Scan viruses. Of course, there are possibilities that could cause your new computer be infected. These methods are safer, but not a guarantee. Your only guarantee is to ask a professional to check it. There is not really what you can do if you do not have some of the software / equipment or expertise.
