What is an ethernet adapter that works using electrical outlets?

I have dsl internet. Could I use ethernet extention using electrical outlet. Does this rely on wireless network or is this the same as wired internet connection with no dropouts?

There are a couple of companies selling Ethernet over Power Lines
It’s not catching on real fast, but it is out there. It is not as reliable or as fast as CAT 5 wiring, but it is somewhat better than wireless
